Where this started
ofxAddons began in 2011 as a project by Greg Borenstein (@atduskgreg) — the original creator, and the person who had the idea in the first place: crawl Github for ofx-prefixed repositories and turn that convention into a real, browsable directory instead of something you had to already know to go searching for.
@jamezilla has kept that original project running as its sole maintainer since 2014, all the way through to today — over a decade of quietly keeping the lights on for a piece of infrastructure a huge amount of the openFrameworks community has relied on without necessarily knowing who to thank for it. Big ups to both of them.

This ofxAddons is a separate, independent build — not a fork of the original codebase — but it exists because that original project proved the idea was worth having: point a crawler at Github's ofx naming convention, and the openFrameworks addon ecosystem organizes itself. Everything here, from the category browser down to the naming convention it relies on, is a direct continuation of that idea.
This new version was started by Dan Rosser (@danoli3), to bring the directory into the modern era and, hopefully, inspire developers back into openFrameworks.
See About openFrameworks for what the toolkit itself is, or How To for how addons and this directory work day to day.
